Job Purpose
The Head of Operations – Medical will oversee the entire medical insurance operations, ensuring performance targets, efficiency, and compliance are achieved. This role is a key member of senior management, responsible for strategic decision-making, operational excellence, and stakeholder engagement.Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
- Oversee all operations within the Medical Insurance division
- Ensure achievement of performance targets and operational efficiency
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures
2. Healthcare Provider Management
- Lead negotiations with healthcare providers, ambulance services, and health promotion partners
- Establish partnerships across East Africa, Asia, and Southern Africa
- Ensure proper accreditation of healthcare providers
3. Business Growth & Strategy
- Identify market opportunities and develop new insurance products
- Drive business growth and increase market share
- Build and maintain relationships with intermediaries and clients
4. Claims & Financial Oversight
- Oversee medical claims management processes
- Implement fraud detection and cost-saving strategies
- Guide underwriting and claims teams using data-driven insights
5. Systems & Innovation
- Ensure stability and efficiency of core insurance systems
- Introduce innovative IT solutions to improve operations
- Develop SOPs for claims adjudication and operational processes
6. Team Leadership
- Lead and motivate employees to achieve high performance
- Promote ethical practices and a customer-focused culture
- Support staff development and performance management
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field
- Insurance-related qualifications are an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of managerial experience
- Experience in insurance, healthcare, or related sectors preferred
