In this role, you will:- Coordinate maternal and newborn health interventions, including quality improvement, capacity building for healthcare providers, and supportive supervision.
- Support the implementation of digital innovations such as the m-mama Emergency Transportation System and client feedback mechanisms.
- Facilitate community engagement through social and behavior change communication activities aimed at improving maternal health outcomes.
- Strengthen MPDSR (Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response) processes and ensure high-quality data management and reporting.
- Collaborate with district and regional health management teams, facility managers, and community leaders to align MNH interventions with national guidelines and local needs.
About the Role
The Program Officer will report to the Project Manager and will be responsible for:Program Planning:
- Support joint annual and quarterly planning with R/CHMTs, CHMTs, and LGAs.
- Coordinate MNH activities across hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries using the hub-and-spoke model.
- Map health facilities, referral pathways, and MNH service readiness to strengthen program implementation.
- Facilitate clinical mentorship and on-the-job training for healthcare providers in EmONC, obstetric complications, respectful maternity care, and postpartum family planning.
- Support dissemination and use of MNH guidelines, job aids, and tools at the facility level.
- Maintain strong working relationships with local government authorities, implementing partners, and facility managers.
- Represent the project in district- and regional-level MNH forums and technical working groups.
- Monitor implementation progress, data quality, and use of MNH indicators aligned with DHIS2 and donor requirements.
- Support facility-level reviews, MPDSR meetings, and documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
- Ensure adherence to donor, organizational, and government requirements, including safeguarding, child protection, and data confidentiality protocols.
Who Can Apply
Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, or related field.
- Clinical qualifications (AMO, CO, RN/RM, MD) strongly preferred.
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Systems, or Project Management is an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in MNH, RMNCAH, or health systems strengthening programs.
- Advanced knowledge of Tanzania’s public health system and SRHR/RMNCAH programs.
- Experience in proposal development, program planning, operations, and financial oversight.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
- Commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal and child health, and gender equality.
- Flexibility to travel as required to support field operations.
