In Tanzania, MSF plays a crucial role in strengthening healthcare services, particularly in remote and underserved areas such as Liwale.

As a Paediatrician, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality outpatient and inpatient care to newborns and children. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnosing and treating neonatal and pediatric conditions such as prematurity, neonatal sepsis, birth asphyxia, respiratory distress, hypothermia, low birth weight, and jaundice
  • Providing emergency, OPD, and IPD services, including management of malnutrition cases
  • Performing neonatal procedures such as resuscitation, CPAP management, IV access, antibiotic therapy, and feeding protocols
  • Conducting daily clinical management of neonates admitted to the Neonatal Care Unit (NCU)
  • Monitoring medical equipment such as incubators, oxygen concentrators, infusion pumps, and phototherapy machines
  • Ensuring adherence to MSF medical protocols, infection prevention, and hygiene standards
  • Coordinating referrals to higher-level facilities in collaboration with the Ministry of Health
  • Supporting telemedicine coordination for timely consultations and case management
In addition to clinical care, the role involves training and capacity building:

  • Providing bedside teaching, mentoring, and coaching to medical staff
  • Organizing training sessions on neonatal care, resuscitation, infection prevention, and emergency management
  • Participating in outreach visits and strengthening capacity in MSF-supported facilities
You will also contribute to monitoring and reporting by:

  • Maintaining accurate patient records and neonatal data
  • Conducting mortality and morbidity reviews
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives through data analysis and reporting
This opportunity is best suited for highly qualified and experienced pediatric specialists. To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Pediatrics from a recognized university
  • At least 3 years of certified experience as a neonatal doctor in a hospital setting
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluency in English and Swahili
Additional advantages include:

  • Previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
The position offers a monthly salary of TZS 4,250,000 (non-negotiable), with a 2% seniority increase after 12 months and additional increments for continued service. Other benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
