About the Role
The role supports the implementation of an innovative financial mechanism under the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF), aimed at improving access to finance for smallholder farmers, rural enterprises, and producer organizations.The position also contributes to the AFR100 Initiative programme, helping Tanzania achieve its restoration and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination (Primary Role)
- Coordinate daily implementation of the financial pilot mechanism
- Ensure alignment with approved workplans, budgets, and funding requirements
- Facilitate coordination between FAO, financial institutions, SACCOs, and producer organizations
- Organize and document meetings and technical discussions
Financial Mechanism Oversight
- Support development and implementation of financial instruments
- Monitor disbursement processes and compliance
- Track repayment rates and portfolio performance
- Identify risks and recommend mitigation measures
- Support mobilization of additional funding sources
Monitoring and Reporting
- Track key indicators such as:
- Finance mobilization
- Number of beneficiaries (FFPOs and MSMEs)
- Inclusion of women and youth
- Portfolio quality and repayment rates
- Prepare technical reports and progress updates
- Contribute to FVC and AFR100 reporting
Documentation and Knowledge Management
- Document lessons learned and implementation challenges
- Prepare technical briefs, case studies, and knowledge materials
- Support stakeholder engagement and dissemination events
Blended Finance Support
- Engage financial institutions and development partners
- Support development of investment briefs and concept notes
- Participate in working groups and partnership initiatives
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Development Finance, Environmental Economics, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development, rural, SME, or green finance
- Strong experience in forestry, agroforestry, or producer organization financing
- Working knowledge of English and fluency in Swahili
- Must be a Tanzanian national
Technical and Functional Skills
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects
- Strong understanding of blended finance instruments (grants, loans, guarantees)
- Financial analysis, budgeting, and performance monitoring skills
- Experience managing financial instruments and risk mitigation
- Ability to monitor portfolio performance and repayment trends
- Experience working with financial institutions, SACCOs, and rural organizations
- Strong analytical, reporting, and writing skills
