Organization Overview​

Hand in Hand Eastern Africa-Tanzania (HIHEA TZ) is a registered NGO in Tanzania since 2018 and part of the Hand in Hand Global Network. Its mission is to empower marginalized communities, especially women, through sustainable enterprise and job creation.

HIHEA TZ operates in six branches: Moshi, Arusha, Manyara, Dodoma, Singida, and Meatu. The organization focuses on economic and social empowerment, improving income, food security, education, healthcare access, and livelihoods through training, skills development, and participatory approaches.


Job Purpose​

The Branch Accountant ensures effective financial management at the branch level, including:

  • Processing accounting transactions
  • Preparing branch financial reports
  • Supporting donor compliance and reporting
  • Safeguarding organizational assets and resources
The role reports to the Branch Manager and works closely with project staff.


Key Duties & Responsibilities​

Financial Management​

  • Prepare accurate annual budgets with the Branch Manager
  • Monitor and analyze budgets versus actual performance
  • Identify variances and implement corrective actions
  • Manage petty cash, accounting, and expense updates
  • Raise internal requisitions in line with procurement policies

Accounting & Reporting​

  • Reconcile branch accounts and payments
  • Post transactions in the accounting system
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, stationery reconciliations, and expense schedules
  • Monitor branch performance and share reports
  • Deduct and remit statutory deductions where applicable

Compliance & Internal Controls​

  • Vet supplier quotations and ensure expenses align with contracts
  • Safeguard auditable documents and maintain proper filing
  • Support internal audits and act on recommendations
  • Protect assets from loss, theft, or errors
  • Undertake trial balance analysis and approve journal vouchers

Staff Supervision & Capacity Building​

  • Supervise, mentor, and appraise the Accounts Assistant
  • Train branch staff on accounting and financial management

Other Responsibilities​

  • Participate in credit committees and customer due diligence
  • Undertake asset verification and coding
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Supervisor

Education & Qualifications​

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field
  • Professional certification (CPA (T), ACCA, CIMA) is an added advantage
  • High computer literacy and knowledge of computerized accounting systems

Skills & Competencies​

  • Integrity and professionalism in handling cash and assets
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Basic auditing skills
  • Effective communication in English and Kiswahili
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and report-writing skills

Work Experience​

  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience
